What We Look for in Our Adopters

At Pink Paws For The Cause, our cat adoption process in the Bay Area is designed to ensure every cat and kitten finds a loving, safe, and stable forever home. To achieve this, we established clear adoption criteria. These criteria prioritize the long-term well-being of our animals. Furthermore, we evaluate all applicants consistently and fairly based on these standards to ensure the best possible outcomes for our cats.

Adoption Requirements

  1. Commitment to Long-Term Care
Applicants must demonstrate the ability to provide consistent, high-quality care for the cat’s entire lifespan, which may exceed 15–20 years. This includes access to food, shelter, veterinary care, and a safe environment. Additionally, applicants must be prepared for unexpected health needs.

  2. Aftercare Plan
Applicants must provide a written aftercare plan. This plan designates a responsible person to care for the cat if needed. They must agree to take over if you can no longer care for the animal. Their contact information must be included. Also provide a brief description of their ability to care for a cat..

  3. Stable Living Environment
Applicants must provide a safe and stable home suitable for a cat or kitten. This includes a pet-friendly residence (with landlord approval if renting). Additionally, the home must have no hazards that could endanger the animal.

  4. Veterinary and Financial Responsibility
Applicants must show they can afford routine and emergency veterinary care, including vaccinations, spay/neuter procedures, and unexpected medical needs. We may request proof of financial stability such as a brief statement of resources (e.g., a brief statement of resources).

  5. Adoption Interview and Home Assessment
All applicants must participate in an interview with our adoption team to discuss their experience with pets, lifestyle, and plans for the cat’s care. We may require a home visit or virtual assessment to confirm your environment is suitable

  6. Compliance with Local Laws
Applicants must agree to comply with all local animal welfare laws, including licensing, spay/neuter requirements, and humane treatment standards as outlined in California Penal Code § 597 and related statutes.

Application Process

  • Submit a completed adoption application, including details of your aftercare plan.

  • Next, participate in an interview with our adoption team.

  • Allow for a home assessment if our team determines one is needed.

  • Finally, sign an adoption agreement outlining your responsibilities as a pet owner.

Notes

  • We reserve the right to deny any application. We do this when we believe an adoption would not serve the best interest of the cat or kitten.

  • Therefore, we make all decisions with the goal of ensuring the animal’s long-term health, safety, and happiness.

  • We do not discriminate based on age, race, gender, disability, or other protected characteristics under California’s Unruh Civil Rights Act. Furthermore, our criteria are designed to be fair, consistent, and focused entirely on the long-term welfare of the animal.
